A four week introductory oil painting course, meeting Wednesdays from 6:00 - 8:30 pm. (Class does not meet on the week of November 27)

* All supplies are provided by the studio for this course including oil paints, brushes, palettes, easels and more. Paticipants will also be provided supports and canvases and will take home their completed work.






Overview


Students will learn the basics of oil painting through weekly Still Life and Figure Painting with instruction. This course is beginner friendly and builds from observing, drawing with paints and underpaintings techniques,  to color mixing and exploring painting techniques specific to the medium. Students will get to take home two finished works, one still life and one figure painting, by the end of the classes. Students will also learn to clean and preserve their brushes for their future practice at home. 



About your Instructor




   Andie Furtado studied oil painting and print making and received a BA in Fine Art and a BA in The History of Art and Visual Culture from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2016. She has been oil painting for 10 years and has shown around Portland at galleries including Guardino Gallery, High and Low, Radius Art Studios, Ethereal Reflection events and more. 

    She is opening up her studio, to host this and one other course this Fall and Winter, as well as a handful of one day workshops and community events. This is Andie’s fourth year of teaching and she is passioante about making oil painting a welcoming and easy to understand medium. 

About the Venue


The Extension is an artist community studio, managed by Andie Furtado and Jordan Raye. Fondly nicknamed ‘The Ex’ has been providing  a gallery and workspace for emerging Portland since 2020. The Ex hosts regular community events and art shows including ‘The Untitled Show’, ‘Still Life Saturdays’ and ‘Flowers and Wine’. 
Maker spaces, monthly memberships and apprenticeship programs are available at The Ex. The space is also available for one night rental as an event space for small to medium gatherings and artists/makers workshops.
